The Green Grocer on Huron is a non-profit fruit and vegetable stand serving the North Toledo neighborhood of Vistula. It was founded in May of 2016 as a project of the Historic Vistula Foundation. Fresh fruits and vegetables are purchased directly from the farmers and made available to the public at those same low prices. We don't mark anything up.
Most of our produce will be available starting at about $0.48/lb for locally farmed produce, ranging up to about $1.00/lb depending on country of origin for out-of-season produce.
The produce stand will be open every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00pm.
This project is a precursor to our even larger project of turning the building located at 1201 N Huron St into the first full-service grocery store in the neighborhood in 40 years. The grocery store will follow the same rules as the produce stand; Buy from the farmers and Farmers Market and sell at those same prices that we paid for them. We will also be accepting donations of non-perishable dry goods which have gone past their 'sell by' dates and would otherwise be disposed of. We will resell them for pennies on the dollar
